Who invented electricity, and where?

 Benjamin Franklin is credited with discovering electricity in 1752. He did so through a series of experiments in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Franklin's experiments involved flying a kite during a thunderstorm, and he discovered that lightning was a form of electricity. He also developed a way to protect buildings from lightning strikes by using lightning rods.
